“Words in Time” is a unique calendar created jointly by Tarbut Movement and the Sapir Center. This calendar emerged from a shared search for words that open a space within time—words that bring depth, reflection, and distinctly Jewish-Israeli meaning to the year ahead.
Each month features a single, carefully chosen word, inspired by a holiday, the season, or the atmosphere of the moment. These words are meant to stir thought, curiosity, and inspiration. Like the tree that, in the words of poet Shlomo Tanai, “says only trunk and leaves / and leaves its roots in the dark,” this calendar invites us to look both at what is visible and what lies beneath the surface.
For every word, we offer a dual interpretation: an original short text that weaves together voices from Jewish and Israeli culture, and a distinctive illustration that brings the theme to life visually. Through this pairing, the calendar reveals the depth of the Hebrew language—not just as a tool for daily communication, but as a cultural foundation, rich with memory, meaning, and shared imagination.
The result is a calendar that celebrates Hebrew, Jewish-Israeli culture, and the rhythms of our time. It speaks to lovers of the Hebrew language, to those moved by its hidden layers, and to anyone seeking moments of light, meaning, and inspiration in their daily lives. In times of internal and external uncertainty, reconnecting with our cultural roots offers strength, spirit, and hope. The breadth and depth of Jewish-Israeli culture have the power to unite us—across difference, beyond division.
The calendar also came out in an English edition and was distributed in the US.
So far we have published calendars for 5786 and 5787, and we hope to continue the tradition in the years ahead.
