A program initiated by “Ma’agalei Tzedek” and “Ne’emanei Torah va’Avodah” with support from the Sapir Center for Leadership Development. Arevut trains the next generation of social activists committed to Tikkun Olam and Jewish social justice principles. Currently hosted at Bar-Ilan University, with similar programs operating across other campuses.
The program equips participants with deep knowledge of social justice concepts in Jewish tradition, practical activism tools, and membership in a diverse community network working toward meaningful social change.

Goal

  1. To cultivate a diverse cadre of young leaders in social and public activism, guided by Jewish heritage values of justice and social responsibility.

Objectives

  1. Provide comprehensive theoretical foundations alongside practical tools for social justice work. Participants meet with influential leaders and activists from various fields and receive support for placement in significant social projects after program completion.
  2. Develop a collaborative, heterogeneous action group representing the full spectrum of Israeli society, reflecting our belief that effective, broad-scale Tikkun Olam requires diverse perspectives and connections.

Target Audience

Students and young adults (ages 20-27) from three sectors: Ultra-Orthodox, secular, and religious-traditional communities, with careful attention to gender and sectoral balance.

Program Structure

10-15 sessions of approximately three and a half hours each, featuring lectures, field trips, workshops, and a seminar:

  • First Module: Introduction to Jewish social thought
  • Second Module: Key issues in class-based social justice
  • Mid-program Seminar: Two-day immersion with Ir Amim exploring Jerusalem’s East-West dynamics
  • Third Module: Contemporary social justice challenges

After program completion, participants interview for placement in social initiatives as change agents, expanding Arevut’s impact and the reach of Ma’agalei Tzedek’s activities.
The cohort continues as both an alumni community and an active network fostering partnerships for ongoing social change.
