Summary:
This article explores the development of non-Orthodox Judaism in Tel Aviv through a comparative study of two liberal congregations: the Reform "Beit Daniel" and the Conservative "Tiferet Shalom." Focusing on "Beit Daniel," the authors analyze how it successfully adapted the American "synagogue-center" model to the local secular, consumerist, and urban environment of Tel Aviv ("glocalization"). The study argues that by operating as a cultural, educational, and religious service provider, the community enables secular Israelis to engage with Jewish tradition in a way that fits their lifestyle and values. |
