Summary:
This article proposes "Traditionism" as a key analytical category for understanding Jewish identity in Israel, challenging the dominant binary of "Religious" versus "Secular." Yadgar argues that a significant portion of Israeli Jews enact a "traditionist" identity - one that views loyalty to Jewish ethnicity and history as a primary value, while selectively adopting religious practices without necessarily accepting Orthodox theological authority. The article frames this identity not as a compromise, but as a distinct and coherent modern way of life. |
